Check out the new web site!

Over the last few weeks I have been working hard to update some of the A2 geography resources that I have on my Think Geography website. I have been having problems with the site and have changed programme and have been transferring my information over and trying to reorganise it as I go.

I know you have been using www.thinkgeography.org.uk and the A2 content is still there - however, i have new stuff for you if you now go to the new site at http://info.thinkgeography.org.uk. At present I only have some AS and A2 work moved over to the new site but more will be coming over the next few weeks.

So - check out the new site to help you through the next bit of the course.

Where are ewe?

So where are ewe all then? So far, only one comment in relation to the agriculture section. I want you to think about some of the changes that we have been thinking about in class and write up a comment or two in the blog for others to feedback to.

Think about this - do you think the role of the CAP in Northern Ireland is a good thing or a bad thing? Who for? As a consumer - what do you think? But, if you were a farmers would you have a different opinion? Do you agree that the CAP encouraged farmers to forget about their environmental responsibilities?

Tell me what you think and try to answer at least one of the questions above!

Its over to ewe!

my thoughts...

well, im just getin around to putin somethin up on this thing now...so im gona start by doin the reflect on last yr task if thats ok. ?
last yr...well well... i dont honestly remember much about it apart from we talked alot about ballyclare in human geography. (sorry stef, had to mention it!) i definately enjoyed the human geography alot more than the physical. i just found it more interesting. i really enjoyed the population distribution and movement bit, like why people move in and out of cities, and where they move to, and what affects their choice? all that craic about resources and stuff. the way that people think really interested me... the urbanisation, counter urbanisation, sub urbanisation, spiral of decline and distribution of resources. the china case study wasnt too bad, but for the population distribution over space question it was definately easier to use NI.
i did enjoy our wee trip to the north coast. (see the pic! how technically talented am i?!?) it was good to have a bonding session and it definately helped me alot to understand the physical stuff that we covered in class. otherwise i think i wouldnt have had much of a clue about most of it! i liked writing up the fieldwork report and i would have to say that the yr14's did help me with that. esp the ones that were repeating and doing the exam with us. the techniques paper was actully quite fun, if thats possible. i found that because i had done the fieldwork myself that i could easily write about it, because i was able to imagine doing it again in my head. i got a C in january and repeated it in june and ended up with an A. i think i just knew what to expect more the second time round and there was no ridiculous questions about dot maps in june. to be quite frank i hadnt a clue what that was about during the exam in january! that perhaps, was a hole in my revision!
overall, i am glad i picked geography up for A level. (that is mostly Mr.M's fault!) tho after i picked it i was worried about not having GCSE. but i found i got into the way of it and actully did quite enjoy it. there were times when i could have seen it far enough and it did take me abit of time to get into the way of writing essays, but i look back with fond memories...
i think thats probably enough about the past for now...roll on yr14!
just as i go i would like to leave you with the legendary quote that i myself did come of with last year, it will never be forgotten...

what else is left to say???
over and out ;-) xo

I thought i'd give this - 'changes to agriculture' a go, im going to look at...changes in 'transport' in the recent years. well to start off this is an economic factor and is a key part of the farmer getting his produce to the market. years ago markets were close to the farming communities, such as in ballymena, when everyone met on a particular day to sell that weeks fresh meat/vegetables etc etc. however more recently, due to the introduction of the 'supermarket' farmers are now experiencing competition from further a-field, as the supermarkets buy it in at the cheapest price. they also do not give local farmers a fair price for their products.

other changes in transport include, some successful, large scale farmers being able to purchase their own trucks to keep up with the change in the rural society. although a few farmers markets are returning in some parts, modern transport methods such as the large refridgerator lorries, are likely to put even more pressure on local farmers, as it means supermarkets can import more food and from even further way.

i hope i was on the right lines there, and at least making some sence, or was i totally off the mark!?

first post

i think i began year 13 not expecting it to be so hard compared to the gcse.
but by our january exam i realised it was.. very hard indeed. i consistently got E's and U's on my tests and essays until january when i managed to pull a B out of the hat, somehow. so i think after january i started to work alot harder, now im sitting on a C. and this year i hope to pull it up to a B. i think im much more on the ball this year anyway (apart from that time i fell asleep) so hopefully i'll get that B

New Activity: Key changes in agriculture

There is no doubt that the world of agriculture has changed massivley over the last 100 years. In fact, these changes have sped up in recent years as new farming methods such as GM crops and organic farming have become increasingly popular. BSE and Foot and Mouth disease have eroded much confidence in the agricultural product and farmers needed to change to survive.

In the web blog - try to identify as many of the different changes that agriculture has had to cope with recently. When you post - choose one agricultural change and try to explain it in as much detail as possible. Dont forget that you can add comments to other student's work as well.

Last year!!

Last year I realised how much work is actually involved in geog, especially with the number of essays we had to do. It seem that we covered so much stuff that now its quite hard to remember it all!

I thought the past paper questions we got were very useful as it showed the amount of detail needed for the short questions. Also the practice essay questions were useful as they enabled me to break the question down so that it made more sense and then I knew exactly what the question was asking for!

This year I intend on doing the same thing as last year, which is just making sure the work that needs done is done, and keepin notes detailed but not too long cos then u cant be bothered to read over them!
Amy

me and last year!!!

well hello there every1 i finally decided to get connected as i felt i was missin out lol but any way me and last year
wer do i begin????
last year i started the intention of workin really hard revising for tests and all but ya no the hard work never really took off- i sorta turned up at class and well basically slept. i can honestly say i didnt work last year to the best of my ability never mind half of it!! this can be seen from my results inwhich i would love to say im disapointed in but because i didnt really do anythin for them i cant really say im disapointed when i expected what i got!!!
so anyway throughout the summer i did sum hard thinkin and decided that when im in geography especially mr mansons geog i would make notes and doya no i afta say soo far its worked- its really helped me with the last 2 questions and im actually understanding wats happenin in the class- soo hopefully i intend to stay focus, stop messin about in class- do these resists actually pass one to a standard that i am proud of instead of having to run to mr m and say ehhh sir can i ave another resist!!!
so basically thats the reality lets hope sumit good comes outa this year!!!

and steffers i can understand y u and mr m like this its pretty cool lol im likin it

love yas lots like jelly tots!!!!
aShErS!!!
